You're silly, but I love your Elder Scrolls analogy.
I think NiKkom is a bit closer to the truth though, nostalgia plays a huge part here.
I used to like fighting games too, but that was when I was a child playing in the Arcades. Some genres don't age too well (or you grow out of them I dunno).
