Lords of Shadow wasn't originally a Castlevania game.  In fact, it didn't become one until about halfway through development, when they also stuck Kojima's name on it.

As he says: They were asked to pitch for a new Castlevania game, and the game was originally gonna be a remake of the original game.

So yeah, what you said is kind of misinformed. 

I've seen the interview, it's revisionist history, likely to help ingratiate the game with series fans.  Lords of Shadow predates Konami's involvement even, though it was pitched as a CV game upon being picked up.  For awhile it was going to be just "Lords of Shadow" too, no CV title.
