I didn't say 3D on the 360 wasn't possible, as it obviously is. I was relating to the fact that the latest HDMI spec has a new channel and specification strictly for the new 3D tvs and that cannot be done on the current HDMI hardware in the 360. The rest of your argument is basically what I implied. Its just not worth the extra costs to change production to now include the updated HDMI, when the current model can technically do HD quality 3D games. |
I see... yeah you are correct there.
This new TV spec is really not something MS needs to bother upgrading HDMI for. All it does is it tells the TV which 3D format the game is using. With the 360, if they decide to bother with 3D, I suspect they will do it with software drivers, like with the PS3...
I actually hate the fact that HDMI 1.4 standardized 3D. Up until now one could find a way to run 3D media content on almost any kind of 3D format. Things are going to be a lot more limited moving forward.
For example, PS3 had 2 3D games released before the update (Avatar and Invincible tiger). One could make these 2 games work with 3D vision on the PC by plugging the PS3 in to a video capture card and, setting the game and display to interlaced, or side by side format and playing the capture card video in the 3D player. Works like a charm...
However the new 3D games for sony, which use the EXACT same 3D display method will not allow this. They just look for HDMI 1.4 plug otherwise they say "3D display not detected" and only show the game in 2D. Nvidia forums were quite pissed about this today...lol. All the 120 hz monitors and 3D TVs used for 3D PC gaming do not have HDMI 1.4. Sony wants your money and they want you to buy brand new glasses, brand new TV...
