Well they already added an hdmi connection after it launched, there's no reason they couldn't start shipping models with the upgraded hdmi connection to be *exactly* like the PS3 connection.
Personally, I dont' see why as its not going to create much of a jump in consoles sales at this time due to the costs associated with the new TVs and glasses. I'd keep their solution for 3D as is and not spend any more money.
