Why aren't Sony/Microsoft making their own balance board?

Sony's goal is not to jump headlong into the new market, they are juist trying to stop Nintendo at the current tier (which is where Motion Plus is). Sony only needs games for that tier. Microsoft is trying to absorb the new market, but they will probably make their own fitness game for Natal.
