Oh and for genre talk, I think it's worth noting that Nintendo themselves list The Last Story as just "RPG" while Xenoblade is listed as "Action RPG".

Not for sure, but that's where all the hints (Sakaguchi's Mr. M, AQi investor notes) lead.  We probably won't be sure until we can actually read the end credits.
