I agree with everything u said, Sunshine is probably the worst 3D Mario game,but, it had some good moments.

Super Mario Sunshine to me is a lot like Super Mario Bros. 2. They both had interesting stories and characters, and they had a different feeling from most other Mario games. However, I personally felt that the difficulty level in Mario Sunshine was just far too much at times. It was almost like the game was trying to be evil with you on purpose, so that is pretty much what ruined the experience for me. Mario Bros. 2 had a different type of gameplay mechanic that I personally just didn't like. So that is why I consider Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Sunshine not only to be very much alike, but also the outcasts of the Mario series as well.
