Even with HD systems, many games are more about throwing money at the graphics instead of overall quality game design. One of the reasons Call of Duty is doing so well is that is has both. Just that reviewers/developers/enthusiast gamers only see one of those things.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
