I haven't played through Gears, but the dialogue I have heard is pretty bad. MGS4 and RE5 certainly didn't have good dialogue either, but the voiceacting was certainly better, which goes a long way.
I don't mind corny dialogue, but at least have good voiceactors, or it steps into cringe-territory rather than laughable-territory.
