@fkusumot: Just because NPD doesn't release weekly data publicly doesn't mean they don't release it privately to paying customers. They also speak directly with product flow managers from all retailers to discuss how much product each retailer should be receiving. I'm sure all three companies have a good idea of how much of their product is getting into customers' hands.

It doesn't mean they do either. Do you have any evidence that NPD does release weekly data to privately paying customers?

They pay for it. Why would you pay for something that you can get for free? To answer your question, no, I don't have hard evidence, and I've never seen a private NPD report. But I'm sure they give detailed drill downs, and I would expect at least preliminary reports on a weekly basis. If not, they still have the product flow managers.

They do give weekly numbers. That guy who used to work at Microsoft mentioned it. He also mentioned that they were so unreliable in comparison to the monthly numbers that they totally disregarded them. In other words, it seems their weeks don't add up to their total months. Which is why I trust VGchartz about as much. Seems like they have a better formula despite having less sources. Each are equally important in statistical tracking. You know... Viper... or Siren or whatever... he did something with the source on the news page.
