Some confusion needs to be rectified... Kato wasn't the chief writer on FFVII, Chrono Trigger or Xenogears. He worked on all 3, and was a main contributor, but he still had less to do with the stories of each than Kitase/Nojima (FFVII), Hori (CT) or Takahashi (Xeno).
Kato's first real central role was with Chrono Cross. He was also the main writer for FFXI (originally) and Baten Kaitos.
