They pay for it.  Why would you pay for something that you can get for free?  To answer your question, no, I don't have hard evidence, and I've never seen a private NPD report.  But I'm sure they give detailed drill downs, and I would expect at least preliminary reports on a weekly basis.  If not, they still have the product flow managers.
