Blu-Ray has to compete with not only DVD but also digital distribution. Blu-Ray has already surpassed failed experiments like Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio but just like digital distribution of audio hurt Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio adoption, I think digital distribution of video is hurting Blu-Ray adoption. Just not to the same extent because the quality jump from DVD to Blu-Ray is much more noticeable than CD to Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio. It also doesn`t help that you can download videos in HD (whether through legal or illicit channels). They`re just not the same quality as Blu-Ray obviously since they are more compressed. |
DD isnt hurting Blu-ray much at all, it still comes down to price. Blu-ray sold more in the first two months this year than DD did all of last year.
