Final Fantasy VII Writer Sees End of The Nintendo Era

I honestly don't understand how Nintendo has been digging their own grave with the DS and Wii. Is he trying to imply that Nintendo can do no more from next gen onwards and won't be able to show innovation and quality in their next console and handheld?
