It's a problem for some people because "emulator" has turned into a dirty word among "hardcore gamers". There is nothing illegal about emulators themselves. Commercial emulator developers have been sued before and the cases were thrown out of court because they aren't illegal. If disolitude uses his GameCube/Wii emulator to play legitimate copies of Gamecube and Wii games, he is not doing anything illegal. Even if he made his own ISO copy of his Gamecube and Wii games, he wouldn't be doing anything illegal. It's illegal to use ISOs you didn't make yourself (ie. downloading them from the internet) from your own game discs and it's illegal to hack out/patch out copy protection (DMCA Act rule) but not to copy your own software for personal use.

It's funny. Almost everyone uses portable audio devices for illcit purposes (mainly playing MP3s they downloaded off the internet through illicit channels) but yet no one gives you a dirty look if you talk about your portable audio player.
