First off I would recommend buying the new model slim because of way less energy usage and you'll save in the long run, but well up to you.
For games, considering you're budget conscious, and excluding multiplat because I assume you bought them or played them already:
- LittleBigPlanet - platformer of the generation
- Killzone 2 - best FPS of this generation
- Uncharted - if you like Gears, you'll love this
- God of War Collection (2 of the best games ever)
- Warhawk - awesome fun, this game was a gem
PSN
- Trine - great game, fun times
- Fat Princess - same
- Flower - very unique experience
Never played the MLB games but from the demos, '10 is the best of them all. Demon's Souls is my game of the generation, it's nothing like Oblivion though, but I think it's way better, well worth the U$60 and I wish I would've manned up and gotten the Collector's edition when it came out. Avoid Resistance games, very meh IMO, I'd also avoid the Ratchet games as they have a game breaking bug on your save that I think IG has never fixed. SOCOM Confrontation is also broken, wait for the real SOCOM 4. I'd also wait for GT5 but GT5P is great as well.
