It's not trust me, been using it for a long time and it works great. The plastic casing snaps right off. Then you can buy something like this:
These days you can get one for like $10, and you can use it on the PS3 aswell.
Edit: by the way in the guide he takes off all of the plastic, i left the upper part on so it looks clean aswell.
