I played my first GTA game when I was 9, though I didn't play any properly until Vice City, and I would not describe my parents as terrible parents. So long as it is made clear that real violence is bad, and the child can make the distinction between the virtual world and the real world then it is fine
Technically, I still can't play RDR, but I reckon that my parents are doing anything awful by allowing me to do so
