Judging from the credits, there were about ~70 people involved with the game. 7 were voice actors, and 16 were debuggers.

There was some overlap with people taking more than one position, so I think in terms of people actually building this game technically and designing stuff, it is about ~35 people.

So I agree, they probably don't need much more than 175,000-200,000 copies sold to start making cash. However, it really depends on America. Japan+Others will contribute around 75,000. If Reggie keeps true on his promise to promote the game somehow, it could clear 100k in America. It isn't often you would think a Nintendo published title couldn't pull that off.
