A majority of used car sales are handled by official dealerships, thus car manufacturers still get a cut of the profit I believe.  I could be wrong though, given the way dealerships are franchised.

Yeah.  They sometimes get a profit if you buy it from a dealership.

If you buy the car directly from it's owner though, that's true not at all.
