Well first of all, 290K is NA a lone. I don't know how it performed in Others but I would guess around 100K. Also, its on the PC and was more successful on the PC.
Here's a quote I found on the Wikipedia... "In October 2006, 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller announced that the game is a commercial success on both PC and Xbox 360 with combined 1 million copies sold worldwide to date.[23]"
That quote was from back in 2006. I would presume the life time sales has surpassed 2 million.

I don't think it's more than the 1 million. The game was released in the Summer and the sales weren't too hot so the initialt shipments could have lasted a long while. So I doubt any shipments were made after October, a minor shipment at best.
Still 1 million copies in sales is okay. $20 a piece in revenue and it nearly covers a team of 100 developers to work for two years (remember that some of that money has to go to marketing). And I doubt the team for Prey 2 will need to be big.

Its sold more than 1 million. Every time it goes on sale on Steam its #1 on the top sellers. I suspect it to be closer to 1.5m at least.

Okay, maybe 1.5 mill if u include Steam sales. But TBH I try to ignore numbers from Steam sales @4.95USD cos they make game sales numbers inflated and hard to compare.

I disagree that. A game sale is a game sale no matter what. Why do you think Half-Life 1 has sold probably somewhere north of 14 million copies so far? Its a quality game that on sale or not still sales around a million copies a year.
Prey is a quality game. It deserves as many sales as it can get. It probably still sales a few copies at regular price still, but when we see massive sales on Steam, we both know that its selling and introducing its unique gameplay to new players while generating some revenue for the developer.
