Uhm rainbird? halo, BF1942 and Warcraft III are mostly splitscreen multiplayer or lan games, the online component was at most, icing on the cake. And you know that using PC games is irrelevant, because Iwata is obviously talking about the console market (what with that whole, representing a console manufacturer thing :P. |
In 2003 it's been over 6 years since first payed MMORPG with milion of users was beeing played daily, 5 years since the launch on the biggest ongoing multiplayer RTS, 5 years since launch of the most played and ongoing online FPS. None of these games had splitscreen and all of them were beeing played mainly online (not singleplayer, LAN was just optional). So with PC games you are way, way off.
So in 2003 the forecast that gamers won't like going online and get "social" was a huge miss.
MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising
