Theirs a difference between hardcore and core gamer in my mind.
A hardcore gamers lives for gaming. As such a hardcore gamer is not a hardcore gamer if they do not own all three systems. Because if you do not own all three systems you are closed off to experiances found exclusively on each platform. A hardcore gamer owns a Wii because of the exclusive content , ground breaking controls and the Virtual Console support. But the hardcore gamer will also own a PS3 and a 360 to play Halo or Little Big Planet. A hardcore gamer will get Natal and such. A hardcore gamer loves all things gaming and enjoys a bit of everything.
A core gamer to me is the core demographic. The players that have been purchasing games and consoles for a long time. Example a gamer who has been gaming all their life. That is a core gamer, in other words their is casual and core gamers. If you aren't casual then your core. In this case with the Wii most of the user base is casual and the core demographic while existant isn't as big as that found on other platforms.
So will a core gamer buy a Wii for MarioGalaxy two? Probubly not because that core gamer has already turned down the first one and many other big titles. They have made their choice and a single game isn't likely to change that. However if you ask after E3 if the line-up will change a core gamers mind you might be pleasently suprised!
