I made a similar post one month ago claiming that ME2 had disappointing sales, and many people here thought I was crazy. Its funny how fast the tide changes at vgchartz.
One of my points was that ME2 requires having to play ME1 to get the full experience. A lot of people who didn't want to play ME1 or didn't like ME1 won't want to play ME2.
RPG games, by nature, are very long and laborious. ME is a great idea for a series, but it does somewhat restrict casual gamers who don't have a ton of time to invest in playing the previous games. I barely had enough time to do a superficial playthrough of ME2 myself.
I think many game developers will think twice about making a game like ME in the future-- it is never good to segment your audience. This is too bad, because ME2 is one of the better games that I have played in the past few years.
Most anticipated games of 2011:
Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith
Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D
