The "but you can buy it online!" argument is a bit silly. This is completely anecdotal, but from working at a video games retailer I can tell you people greatly prefer purchasing video game hardware locally. People make the decision they want a game system, go buy it and a maybe a game or two. No waiting involved.
Sure, some of us are comfortable buying $300+ electronics online, but I assure you there are plenty of people who either don't trust online sites, greatly prefer buying locally, or want the instant gratification of being able to use their purchase right away. If they can't find the hardware they want locally, they may wait until they can or go buy something else that is available.
