I've tried Googling for Nintendo DS sales figures for New Zealand, but without much luck. This was quite surprising as Nintendo often give out sales figures for different countries when their consoles hit milestones. Fortunately I came across Sales figures for the PS2 and PSP with market share percentages, with those it's fairly simple to deduce Nintendo DS figures.

November - December 2006:

PlayStation 2 - 21,813 units = 70.9% of console market

PlayStation Portable - 9,560 units = 73% of handheld market

Which equals:

Nintendo DS 3,536 = 27% of handheld market

That equates to 1,768/month, which is less than the PS3 sold in November this year. In actuality sales should be significantly higher in December than in November, so last years DS November sales would have been lower than 1,768. It turns out that the DS just isn't very popular in New Zealand.

I also come across a few LTDs which may help to put the previous figures into context.

2006 (End)

PlayStation 2 - 400,000

2005 (End)

PlayStation 2 - 350,000
Xbox - 140,000
Gamecube - 10,000

This would put PS2 at 436,000 + Jan - Mar 07, so somewhere around 450,000.
