Well I guess to some it might be surprising, but from my point of view I've expected them to announce one all along. I still think Sony is kinda infuriated that Nintendo announced the 3DS before they got to announce PSP2. I don't think Sony expected that.
I also agree with Source that both current handhelds will probably get significant pricedrops for the holiday season to continue as support for the developers who will still be putting software on the systems.
