As an early adopter I can't really say software because when I buy the consoles the software just doesn't exist yet. The only two console's I can say that hardware wasn't a deciding factor in would be the purchases of my 360 and my NES. I bought the 360 for the 3rd party games and Halo which I couldn't get on my Wii and the NES for the Nintendo first party games I could no longer get on my Atari2600.
But my Wii , DS , PS3 and PSP were all purchased not for the software but the hardware. launch day their was nothing good for Wii and DS that wasn't already availible on a current console. Then my PS3 I purchased for BluRay and my PSP for MP3's UMD's and graphics.
All my other console purchases were made based on both hardware and software!
