Still a console. It's like separating Laptops from Desktop PC's.

I never considered handhelds and consoles the same. It's different market.
It's more like comparing a Mac with a Ipod.

Macs and iPods serve different purposes. Ipods are meant to play music on the go. Computers are meant to do numerous things like typing, surfing the web, watching vidoes and so on. They serve two different jobs and you can not substitute a Mac for an iPod.
Handhelds and consoles are both videogame machines and are designed to do the same thing: play video games. The only difference is that one is portable and the other is not, but they fill the same role. Thus, they are in the same market and consumers will compair the two when they decide to buy videogames.

Well I was mostly talking about the iPod touch where you can do pretty much the same as a Mac (on a much smaller scale of course).
I'll never ever consider handhelds and consoles the same. It's a whole different experience at least for me. I don't like handheld much while I really enjoy consoles. That's why I'm saying it's not the same market.

Just becuase you seperate them does not mean consumers do. The only difference between the two is one is handheld and one is not. Since consumers are buying a videogame system, they are comparable. Consumers don't segment markets like that.

well I can actually back that up. here in costa rica both consoles and portables are both very expensive so I had to decide on which console to get first this gen. it was a hard decision but I finally picked the ds and never regretted the choice I made (of course I eventually got the wii). but I viewed them all as consoles same as most people here. there are people who would pick a ds instead of a wii 360 or ps3.
