I'm not suprised that in every thread concerning DS LTD sales people trying hard to downplay somehow it's success stating that it appeals to bigger market (sometimes vaguely called 'different', whatever it means still the same spin) by mere the fact it's portable so PS2 keeps it's #1 status. If only portable consoles aggregate sales were bigger than home console aggregate sales on monthlyyearlywhatever basis in history of videogames then this argument might hold some water but it's not, which makes DS success even more astonishing (it breaks longtime trend of portable consoles selling sizably less than home consoles).

But it does appeal to a bigger market. Pretty much every kid I know own a DS. And not only them but their brothers and theirs sisters. I know a lot of big families with a lot of childrens and every children of the family own their own DS. So it's like 4 DS per family while you won't see 4 consoles per family.

And I bought my DS at 99$. Now who wouldn't at that price?

I'm really tired of posting of this pic =)

Mobile phones appeals to bigger market than consoles, hence >1 billion unit sales yearly vs how many?.. like 40 million of DS and PSP combined last year. That's what I call sizeble difference. Portable vs home consoles? Not so much. I just following facts, no assumptions.

But just look at these two articles. That's what I mean by different market:

http://www.qj.net/qjnet/wii/average-age-of-wii-owners-is-29-says-fils-aime.html

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/31/technology/31nintendo.html?_r=1&ex=1199854800&en=7d45a4b7f9f7b29b&ei=5058&partner=IWON

It says what's the average age of Wii owners and DS owners. Huge difference. Different market.
