Geez, at least it took Dragon Quest IX some 9-10 months to get a reduced price. This has gone straight to the bargain bin in about 4 months. Talk about over-extended hype.

Japanese games routinely drop their prices just a few weeks after release. Four months is much more than I expected, especially at that price point.

Yes, but they don't routinely drop the price for their most anticipated games.  Hence why I made the comparison to Dragon Quest IX, which took over 9 months to get a price drop.  Final Fantasy XIII being a game that was suppose to be on the a similar level of hype and, according to SquareEnix itself, expected sales as Dragon Quest IX.  Hence why the game has bottomed out so early.  Its a classic case of a compny who's eyes were bigger than their stomach.

And this is a little more drastic than a price drop.  This is going from full price to bargain bin without a gradual decline.

u r wrong ther, square expctd ff13 to sell 2 million in japan. Dragon quest is much bigger than ff in jpn. last gen the highest selling ff was ff10, dq8 outsold ff10 by over 1 million, so why wud they expect DQ9 to sell 2 million  when tht was its first shipment?

Because both Wada and team lead Kitase had been hyping the game, expecting it to be the next 'Final Fantasy VII'.  In other words, expecting it to sell much more than 3 million.  This is why the initial shipment for the game was 2 million copies.  But the game has hardly sold that many now, causing the price to deflate rapidly.  Its a simple case of a company trying toover hype a game that the public wasn't going to buy that many copies of.

Yes, everyone else, from the public to Famitsu expected the game to only sell around 2 million.  However, SquareEnix themselves didn't expect that.  Or rather...perhaps they were hoping if they kept telling everyone else it would sell more and pumped millions upon millions in advertising behind those words, it would happen.

Six upcoming games you should look into:
