You seem to enjoy the WRPGs, where you make your character and become part of the story of the world (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Ultima, Mass Efect, Fable, etc.). WRPGs have the elements you like. However, JRPGs have a totally different focus. JRPGs have a story that revolves more around the characters because they influence heavily the course of the story. This does not mean they don't make the games RPGs. They are, but from a different perspective. They have the same elements of leveling up, status development, quests, battle mechanics, etc. |
You're right. The Wii is the first console I've owned since the Atari 5600. After the Atari, it was all PC gaming so of course I'm not too familiar with jRPGs, but the ones I have played I have not been a big fan of (FFVII, Fire Emblem). That's not to say I have not enjoyed story based RPGs in the past (Revenant was great).
In any case, I was just pointing out my concerns with the game. It looks great, but at the same time, I prefer to create my own character from scratch and watch (more like make) him or her grow in power. I really enjoy the freedom to choose my own upgrade path (spells, weapons, character stats, armor, etc.). I'm not saying this game is going to suck because it doesn't have character customizations, just that I am a little concerned that a great looking title might not be geared toward me.
