The biggest problem with the game is you can't make your own characters.  The name is also stange.

Games that allow you to make your characters tend not to have good stories though so I don't see how this is a problem. Thisn't isn't an MMO.

Don't see how the name is strange either. The game revolves around the Monado sword so that's where they get the blade...then they just added Xeno.

Which makes it more action adventure than RPG.  And MMOs aren't the only types of RPGs that allow you to create and develop your own characters, which is what RPGs are all about.  I prefer great RPG elements to a story I may or may not like, and definitely won't want to hear a second time.  Story based games are also very restrictive, which is very un RPG like.

You seem to enjoy the WRPGs, where you make your character and become part of the story of the world (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Ultima, Mass Efect, Fable, etc.). WRPGs have the elements you like. However, JRPGs have a totally different focus.

JRPGs have a story that revolves more around the characters because they influence heavily the course of the story. This does not mean they don't make the games RPGs. They are, but from a different perspective. They have the same elements of leveling up, status development, quests, battle mechanics, etc.

You're right.  The Wii is the first console I've owned since the Atari 5600.  After the Atari, it was all PC gaming so of course I'm not too familiar with jRPGs, but the ones I have played I have not been a big fan of (FFVII, Fire Emblem).  That's not to say I have not enjoyed story based RPGs in the past (Revenant was great).

In any case, I was just pointing out my concerns with the game.  It looks great, but at the same time, I prefer to create my own character from scratch and watch (more like make) him or her grow in power.  I really enjoy the freedom to choose my own upgrade path (spells, weapons, character stats, armor, etc.).  I'm not saying this game is going to suck because it doesn't have character customizations, just that I am a little concerned that a great looking title might not be geared toward me.
