Gaming - 720p != 1080p - View Post

Firstly maybe I have weird eyes but to be honest my ability to distinguish between the jaggie and smooth lines disappeared at about the same distance that I could no longer distinguish the crosses.  I'd need to see a few more examples of this supposed phenomena on some other people besides myself before I am convinced of this point.  Furthermore I can recall seeing jaggies in a 720p game, not so much in 720p movies, do people really think it is a factor is determining differences in image quality?

Sorry if I missed this but I didn't see anyone mentioning viewing distance, the other part of the equation.  The important point is that there is not a discrete distance for a certain TV size where suddenly 1080p is revealed to you in all it's glory, rather it is a continuum.  Perhaps aliasing IS the most first and most noticeable difference in IQ accounting for the "starts to become noticeable" regions on the graph but the point remains there are TV sizes and viewing distances where, due to limitations of the human eye (not necessarily just discrete resolution) we aren't going to be able to tell the difference between the various TV resolutions.

I have more to say on this topic but will leave it for another time.
