I'm pretty sure the next main Nintendo console will have an online system similar to the consoles of this generation. However, sadly, I'm sure it will also come at the expense of Downloadable content and 'unlockable extras' in games. If you look at the setup of WiiWare itself, its not far off from a system of putting points into an online system to 'download unlockable content' itself. Just extend the idea to connect to games you already purchased (such as Mario Kart, Pokemon or Animal Crossing) and you can see where Nintendo could take the idea to new heights.....and profits. Many people are puzzled to why they didn't do it already. Especially with games like Smash Bros and Mario Kart.

But as much as the idea of having to pay for new content might get some peoples blood boiling, I wouldn't mind it so much. Think about it. Which would you rather have. Paying 5-10 dollars for extra content for only those select games you WANT to add content to. Or having to pay 50+ dollars to use Nintendos online service PLUS online features for third party games to fund their cost to use Nintendos online service (such as Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star, etc) PLUS downloading WiiWare games, etc.

I'll take the downloadable content for the select games.
