I don't see how come a phone is a threat.

"I won't buy 3DS because I will buy the new iphone"

It doesn't make sense at all.

The line of thought would go more like this:

"I can already play games on my iPhone, so I don't need a 3DS to entertain me on the go."

@ Nordlead

This information is obviously coming from a secret source, and is therefore paraphrased in the words of the source, and possibly again in the words of the journalist. It's not a quote. I'll agree that there's a chance it's total bunk, though.

For that, people need to see gaming value in the iPhone as they may see on 3DS.

If you ask people a couple of iPhone games that may entertain them on the go, they can't say anything because the good iPhone games no one knows them.

3DS is all about games, people may know about Brain Training 3, Nintendogs 2 or something else on TV ads. iPhone is not marketed as a gaming machine.

While that strategy doesn't change, iPhone will never be a threat. No matter if it sells more or less than a portable gaming console. The effect will be minimal.
