The point is that it had the user base of both the ps2 and the ps3 till there was no longer ps3 bc yet it's not like it was a 5 million seller. Also when there are over 130 million consoles that can play ps2 games would another 20 million make that much of a difference. Which is the main point. Or how about until last year there were more ps2s sold since the launch of the ps3 than ps3s? Maybe there could be more ps2 software sold, but maybe there would be less ps3 software sold as well. Most people don't have the time or money to play all the games they want. Although it won't be a 1 to 1 ratio. If there were to have been substantially more ps2 games sold to ps3 owners there would have been fewer ps3 games sold. I know this is true for me and I know I'm not the only one. Why would I buy rock band or the simpsons game for the ps2 when I can get it for the ps3? The only games I'd buy for the ps2 are games that aren't on the ps3 and that's pretty much used games. Ps2 is far from dead since there are over 1.5 billion games out there. It's rather amazing any new ones sell at all. Over time sales of games for older systems even if they can be played on newer systems move to used sales. How many new gba games moved on the ds before they took that feture out with the dsi? How many new xbox games move on the x360 how many new gamecube games move onto the wii? |
That's not the point. I'm not saying games would sell millions more if the PS3 had BC. I'm just saying over all software sales would be better and it would encourage developers to make more games. As of now, the PS2 only gets one new game a month in the US. It gets more titles in Japan, but they are low budget niche titles. Europe doesn't even have anything listed for upcoming titles.
I didn't say it was dead. I said its pretty much dead. Bearing in mind how little new software it receives. Its not much of surprise it can still sell new games. It does still move tens of thousands units every week. Unfortunately, there isn't many new titles in the horizon.
I don't know why you are using other consoles as some sort of example. Sony has to do what the other guys are doing?
