| Erik Aston said: Battalion Wars and Advance Wars are both part of the Console Wars series which started with Famicom Wars about 20 years ago. IP means Intellectual Property. We really should say software brand instead of IP. The design of the Balance Board or the shape of the new Wiimote sleeves is Nintendo's IP, but that's obviously not what we're talking about. But even then, it's sort of meaningless. As was just pointed out with Planet Puzzle League, it's an old game, but it's under a new software brand. Nothing special about that. Meanwhile Wii Fit has revolutionary gameplay, but relies on an existing software brand. "Number of new software brands" is an artificial measure of a company's commitment to innovation. Nintendo is pretty obviously commited to innovation right now, and they are doing it both with old brands and new ones. |
Damn right it's artificial. R&C is a great series, but how many Sony fanboys decried it as just another sequel for the PS3? Almost none, but they sure called on the Wii for having a Zelda game at launch.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
