So I found out it wasn't me sucking harder than a starving prostitute, but the lake right beside the old man that gives you the fishing rod and lure is so insanely hard to fish from (bugged even?). Headed over to the lighthouse and crushed. Advice to anyone starting to fish, avoid that first lake at all costs and you'll do fine.
Thanks for the input, my love for the game has return! So has my faith in my gaming skills too.
