Valve is the only company widely successful in the PC gaming realm? Bioware (KOTOR), EA (C&C and The Sims), Blizzard (WoW), Lucas Arts (Empire at War), 2K (Civilization), THQ (Company of Heroes), and Vivendi (more games than I want to write) all say hi. I can't think of anyone who's put serious effort into PC development who's been shafted by it recently. Maybe Activision with Quake Wars, but it wasn't that good a game anyway, and the Quake franchise is pretty much dead. |
I was meaninig within the last year or two. Civ 4 is said to be slowest selliing of the series. Company of Heroes is an ok game out of the bunch. The Sims is selling nearly at a rate of Half-Life. C&C3 = failure (I have 300 people on my friends list on xfire and triple that on the friends of friends list, I barely see C&C3 played at all). COD4 is the most popular. WoW is hold strong but sign-ups seem to have slowen as they have 9.3 million members and thas not growing much at all. I though it would be around 9.5m by now but its not. KOTOR and KOTOR2 are a few years old now. Quake Wars = flop. Empire at war is played rarely but I see half-life: deathmatch classic more often.
The problem is that PC gaming has gone so far with it's graphics that people are sick of having to upgrade ever 2 - 3 years so they just buy cheap computers that can run old classic games they already own and not move forwards unless they need to like to move to Vista or run COD4 on the lowest setting.
