Here's a short history of this gen and JRPGs:

DS and XBOX360 comes out before other systems - As a result, early JRPGs are put on those systems first. Major productions for DS and XBOX360 are announced before Wii/PS3/PSP even launch such as Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, DQ Remakes, etc.

PS3/PSP/Wii launch strangely devoid of JRPGs. XBOX 360 continues to get a small helping of JRPGs each year and DS is flooded with them. It takes a good 2 years before the 'new' systems which came a year later see any major JRPG releases.

Warp forward to 2010, and here we are with the Wii itself. It is still the most devoid of all the major consoles of JRPGs, despite being Japans highest selling console outside of handhelds. Multiple reasons are given, but what is obvious is there has been few companies even try to put a major JRPG on the system. Until now. With Monster Hunter Tri, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile and a few others only slated for Japanese release, the tide is turning. By the end of this gen, the Wii may surpass the other consoles in the amount of JRPGs to its name.

But the biggest names are yet to come. Three major JRPGs, possibly the biggest of this gen next to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XIII, have been named. And all for Wii. They are Xenoblade, The Last Story and Dragon Quest X. Those are the ones to look out for.

Of course, if you really want the machine for JRPGs, you want a DS.
