The 360 has surrendered .2m of it's initial lead over the PS3 in 4 yrs of aggressive price-cutting and in spite of a major redesign. Software worldwide stands at roughly 120m more for 360 than PS3 so I don't see that as proving something in Sony's favour.
Imho there is less than a 50% chance the neXXus will launch in 2011 but there is no chance PS3 will be ahead at that point. The impressive HW and SW numbers PS3 has had recently include some long-awaited SW, supply issues that tend to increase demand and the slim effect.
If the next gen is delayed till 2012 and if Natal has flopped and if M$ have minimized pricecuts to continue running in the black then it is possible. Still M$ will have a solid beachhead in the industry and hopefully learned from past mistakes. As stated above the 360 will not stop selling immediately and at $100, with this library available for next to nothing it could sell very well. I decide when next gen arrives for me and that will be the day I plug in my next box.
If Sony match pricecuts with M$ they will be sacrificing any chance at profitablility this gen. I wonder when they will begin listening to their shareholders rather than their fans.
