I guess all in all I'm hoping that since Nintendo went way too casual in '08, and they had a decent balance in '09, that this will be the year the Wii sheds the image of it created by Wii Sports etc (like the ds did with brain age and Nintendogs over the latter years of its reign), and that we get a few mentions of things like Wii Sports, etc, to appease that crowd, but that 80 to 90 % of Nintendo's conference is dedicated to outstanding new games in traditional genres.

yeah, I know the Wii isn't regarded as being as powerful as the other consoles, but with the other consoles wanting to show their more casual friendly games this year, the Wii could really raise its standing with the core this year.

And you oftentimes here people say with Wii it's the gameplay. Well, if that's true why demonstrate that gameplay in Wii Sports, etc? Why not show that they have the best games in traditional genres? If they're truely the best, they will get the sales and accolades they deserve.

Wii traditional games never get based on their own merit, rather they are compared to a similar thing on the PS3/360. For example, take this excerpt from the recent Monster Hunter 3 review from GameDaily:

"Even though its visuals and audio come up short, Monster Hunter Tri is one of Capcom's best. The gameplay grows on you after the first few monster kills, and teaming up with friends on epic quests never get old. Let's hope that Capcom has more Hunter adventures lined up in the future, perhaps for higher-end consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."

With these quirky Wii games to demonstrate the gameplay, reviewers have to take much more of the product in at face value; they cannot find a similar experience anywhere else that matches the quality.
