I’m surprised that at this point in time videogame journalists still don’t seem to understand why Nintendo isn’t focusing on the Hard-Core gamer in their E3 news conference. On an arbitrary weekday in the middle of the year Nintendo can make a couple of sentence announcement with little information and dominate the news & rumour cycle in the gaming press for weeks (or longer); but they only have one event in the entire year where they can make an announcement that will get out through the mainstream media to build excitement with people who don’t follow gaming closely.

Certainly they can, should and do release information about their core games in their presentation but they need to focus on demonstrating what their new broad appeal products are, what they can do, why this is important/cool, and generally give people a desire to own them. The vitality sensor and the 3DS (or whatever they will show this E3) will take up the majority of the show because Nintendo needs these products to dominate the mainstream press coverage after the show.
