The best thing about floppy disks was its compactness and ease of use (much easier to copy a file to a floppy disk than to burn a CD).
The worst thing was the unreliability... How often did you copy a file to multiple floppy disks just to make sure that you'd be able to read the file somewhere else?
Still, not that many years ago I still used floppy disks once in a while (mostly as a recovery boot method, or to play some ancient games in a native DOS environment).
PS: I consider the true replacement for floppy disks to be the USB drive/pen drive, not CDs.
