Pretty much this. What I demand most from my RPGs are enganging gameplay mechanics. Storylines in games are overrated, I want to be engrossed in an RPG's setting just as heavily as its story elements. But what I usually find is that I can't bring myself to slog through an RPG if I'm not enjoying the gameplay. Part of the reason why I've yet to beat Wild Arms 3 due to its watered down combat, but breezed through all the other games.
