Considerring how annoying some of the characters in VIII were and how everytime Squall and Rinoa were together I'd either be shouting at the screen at Squall's emo idiocy or retching I'm going to go with VII. In particular the bit where Red XIII finds out about his father. Also the whole setting just resonated with me more than the setting in VIII.
