This simply isn't true. Christian "ideology" has always been the same, it has never changed. Jesus was perfectly clear when he instructed people on how to live, and his advice and wisdom is just as applicable now as it was then. His teachings haven't needed to "mature", they were perfect the first time. The only thing that has changed is the groups of people that have come into power from time to time and have utterly perverted and bastardized Christian ideals. Was the Inquisition terrible? Absolutely. Is the Lord's Resistance Army committing horrific atrocities in Africa? Undoubtedly. But does the resulting body count from such things make Christian ideology any less legitimate? No. Looking at the actual Christian teachings, such as "thou shalt not kill", anyone can see that the groups committing these gross acts in the name of Christianity are not actually following Christian teachings. The fact that some people choose to do things that blacken the name of Christianity does not make Christian ideals any less useful or relevant. All it proves is that humans are pre-disposed to violence no matter what. |
