Anyway, by doing it this way, there are a lot of advantages - classic controllers do not need to have batteries or bluetooth, and it also opens up the possibility of 15 player games for the Wii, more than double what the PS3 is capable of (both support 7 via bluetooth, then Wii supports 4 GC and 4 classic controllers) Alas, most people haven't got screens big enough to split into 4 rows of 4 and thus this incredible feature got little support :P
Classic controllers do not need to have batteries because you plug them into the Wiimote, which does need to have batteries (and for which there isn't even a first-party rechargeable battery available!). And it opens up the possibility of playing games with uselessly large numbers of players.
So yeah, there are no advantages.
