Stuff with negative elements are usually used for other things such as... Gathering herbs or something, you can get armour sets that have like.. negative every element but will give you faster gathering times, or will let you gather more than usual.
Sometimes you can risk it, some armours give you 1 extra carve! But they also are usually low on elemental defense.
