Now noone here in this forum can say Crysis 2 can never be the best graphics because it's multiplat.
If anyone was trying hard to get more out of 360 or PS3 I would hope it was Crytek. |
If I'm not mistaken, there was no lead platform for Modern Warfare 2 either. So no, I still think we will see better looking games than Crysis 2 on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Modern Warfare 2 was lead on PC. 360 and PS3 were ports.
Crysis 2 is the first multiplat title where inhouse developers are actually trying to make their console version noticeably better than the other. One week you can see the PS3 dev team laughing " see the cell ". The next week you can see the 360 dev team saying " fools, you fools. Forget the Sony hype look what we can do " etc etc.
I would love to be a fly on the wall. Specialized teams for both consoles with the most talented graphics guys in the world.
Nuff said.

Modern Warfare 2 was not a port, in any direction.

It was once rumored to be PS3 lead, but that was quickly shot down. All individual teams, all simultaneous development (not ports).
And the bottomline regarding Crysis 2, although it is running on an engine specifically designed to utilize whatever hardware it's running on, I can't see it advantage of the PS3 like Uncharted 2, God of War III, or Killzone 2 did, just as I can't see it taking advantage of the 360 like ALAN WAKE, Gears of War 2, or Halo: Reach will/did.
I don't doubt their talent and hard work, but this being their first console game, they have some big shoes to fill.

I remember the interview with a Crytek programmer at GDC. Where he said it took them along time with PS3 tech challenges to get the system up to speed. He then went onto saying no other PS3 dev is doing for PS3 what we are. I guess you either trust Crytek or not. Being as they have lead graphics for nearly 10 years. I trust them.

I trust what I've seen. So far, those who've proven themselves the MOST capable with PS3 hardware are PS3 specific devs. There are a number of beautiful multiplat games on PS3, but none have done what many of the exculsives have.
And I think you misunderstood me, I didn't say they wouldn't prove themselves, or that they're incapable of it. I said they have big shoes to fill and right now, their words are just that. This is also their first console game. Consoles obviously work different from PCs, especially the PS3.

Ahhh. ;)
I also guess everyone should consider the amount of stuff going into Crysis 2 as well. Everything being in realtime is quite a feat. No other console game has done everything in realtime without tricks. In writing this, I'm referring to the reaction to the first showing of Crysis 2 to the media last month on 360. By the sounds of things Bad Company 2's realtime deformation is leagues behind what the media saw with Crysis 2. Then theres all the realtime lighting, effects etc. The list from the previews was staggering. Even I expect Crysis 2 to beat AW. And I am predicting Aln Wake to hold the crown from May.
